Pirate Ships is the mobile game for those who want to experience the thrill of building and battling epic pirate vessels
Design a builder for assembling the crew and outfitting a pirate ship that takes into account both the need to attach characters to equipment (in the same slots) and the ability to simply place the crew on the deck.
User Research, Wireframing, Interaction Design, Prototyping
During the research and exploration phase, various options were considered but ultimately rejected. One significant decision was to retain the isometric projection instead of opting for a straight projection, as the developers were reluctant to make that change.
The builder interface was divided into two distinct sections: the crew and the equipment. The crew slots, both on the deck and in the list, were designed with a friendly and circular shape. On the other hand, the equipment slots were square-shaped with defined corners.
When a slot is selected, the user enters an interactive mode specific to that slot type. An overlay is applied to the background, and the interface grid is prominently displayed on the deck. Entities that belong to unselected types are visually indicated with a gray and semi-transparent shader. This design approach ensures that even if the equipment is large and potentially obstructs the character, the character remains visible to the use
